Delete Axis can fail

Description

Sometimes Delete Axis fails to remove an axis (or the right one). You can open Mitosis and test. I have had it where you delete Z and nothing happens. Or you delete Z but it looks like a channel went away instead. This bug is intermittent and not always easy to duplicate. Recreated with cec28bc4630ec860ca5923887f975a5ccc0ce53d.

I think this is a low memory issue related to #802.
