Windows is Microsoft's family of operating systems. It is the most prevalent desktop computer platform. This page details issues specific to using ImageJ on Windows systems.


Installation

Caution: "Program Files" not recommended!
If you are installing ImageJ on Windows, we strongly recommend that you store your ImageJ.app directory somewhere in your user space (e.g., "C:\Users\[your name]\ImageJ.app") rather than in "C:\Program Files" or other system-wide directory. If you move ImageJ.app to such a directory, modern versions of Windows will deny ImageJ write permission to its own directory structure, preventing it from being able to update. HiDPI displays

If text and other UI elements appear tiny on your HiDPI display, then check the following:

  • Double check that you are running the 64-bit version of Java.
  • Verify that you are running Windows 10 (Windows 7 and 8 do not do HiDPI scaling).
  • In ImageJ.exe › Properties › Compatibility, check the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" option. Try with it enabled, as well as disabled—some users have reported success only with this option off, and others only with it on.
